Impress the Unimpressable with Simple Origami!
Hey All! The search for the new and exciting simple origami ideas has taken me to bizarre and interesting places and the latest journey has been led by author Robert Lang. I’ve given you a link to Amazon to see for yourself. Worth a look.
Origami Design Secrets: Mathematical Methods for an Ancient Art
From stealth fighter to hummingbird, the world of origami has expanded and boy does my origami repertoire need expanding.
It was at my boyfriend’s birthday the other day and we went out to dinner with a few of our friends. Whilst waiting for our gourmet pizza to arrive, I though I would thrill and impress my fellow diners. With a flap I unfolded my large cloth napkin and proceeded to dazzle my audience.
Or so I thought.
I was horrified to see that not only one but three of my friends (wearing identical smug looks) snap out their own napkins and created cranes, frogs and even a turtle!
Boy was I deflated. Somehow the little known skill of simple origami had become a fad and even a typical blokey bloke could fold a napkin. So with the help of Lang (a true godsend for those trying to impress the unimpressable) and a few hours of folding paper toweling (and yes toilet paper) I have master a few new tricks. Hopefully I won’t have to wait long to unleash my new talents on my unwary dinner companions.
Have a look at his book Origami Design Secrets: Mathematical Methods for an Ancient Art and give me a shout and tell me what you think!
Cheers,
Ferne.
PS-Here’s a video for how to make a turtle- Origami Turtle and here is a PDF download from http://www.origami.com/index.html that needs little translation and shows you how to make a frog, crane and flapping bird!-http://dev.origami.com/diagram_load.cfm?pdfname=trad_page1.pdf. Lang’s book covers all of these basics but also delves into the new and different. Definitely worth checking out.
